Norman Smith is an Emmy Award-winning film editor and visual artist whose mixed-media works draw from a lifetime spent shaping culture through music, film, and television. Working from his Miami studio, he creates mixed-media pieces from found and repurposed materials collected across decades, transforming personal archives into layered explorations of form, meaning, and reinvention.

Born in New York and raised in Colombia, he spent his early formative years attending boarding school in Trinidad under Benedictine Monks. His mother, Rosemary Smith, was a pioneering figure in Colombia's Nadaismo movement, exposing him early to experimental forms of artistic expression. Norman's worldview was shaped by a rich convergence of cultural influences, which cultivated a deep attentiveness to observation and connection to nature.

Norman's creative life has unfolded across multiple disciplines. As a member of Los Yetis, often referred to as "the Colombian Beatles, " he participated in a defining moment of Latin American music history before building an acclaimed career as an editor in New York. His work contributed to a transformative era in media during the rise of MTV, editing music videos for artists such as Cyndi Lauper, The Rolling Stones. Meat Loaf, Cher, and Run-D.M.C., as well as his award-winning sports broadcasting works on CBS and ABC and feature films such as Robert Altman's "Streamers."

Today, these experiences converge in a body of work that treats objects, images, and natural materials as fragments of a larger narrative. Drawing on the editorial principles of observation, sequencing, and juxtaposition, Norman constructs compositions in which each element carries its own history while contributing to a broader whole.
